The three images of this exhibition in the Mupi Gallery were isolated and taken from a larger project also entitled Canícula. As a backlit triptych, puts us several issues associated with vacation leisure these days. In them, leisure arises as a possibility of rest, of interruption of a labor activity, of the right to laziness, accompanied by an apparent lightness and detachment, or affirmation of the paradoxical utility of dolce far niente. But in parallel they are images of appearance, as a veil that in its human dimension covers up various micro narratives and fictions. Often, they are alienated “realities” that embrace dramas and tragedies as a result of overproduction and global consumerism.

Joachim Luxo is an artist of Portuguese-French origin. He currently lives and works in Porto. He graduated and completed his masters degree in photography and video at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Decoratifs de Paris. He taught for several years in the film department of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Paris - Sorbonne, and is currently involved in the teaching of art and image in Porto.
His work has been presented at various national and international exhibitions, shows and festivals such as: Pinakothek der Moderne de Munich, Gulbenkian Foundation of Lisbon, Siggraph USA, Cinemed de Montpellier, Musée Fabre de Montpellier, FFA Bruxelles, RTSI Lugano Switzerland, Forum des Images Paris, Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord Paris, Cité de la Musique Paris. His work is represented in several public and private collections in several countries.
