Mupi Gallery presents a new individual exhibition, this time by José Maçãs de Carvalho, part of The Politics of Images curated by João Baeta.

Beyond, of all the production that I have been doing since 2010, around the idea of archiving, there remains a side project called Archive Draftsthat usesimages from my photo archive, and texts from my academic research on this subject. These images have an experimental and wandering configuration: they can make the viewer doubt about their artistic condition, besides the possibility of showing a transit between the visible and the sayable.

In this set, I apply to all the photographs an archival indexing system based on words and texts used in this academic research, around the concepts of archive, memory, photography, image, etc. Most of the quotations now serve to replace the number that is usually used in the digital image file and that precedes the image compression acronym.
This indexing is intentionally omitting the context, place and time that usually come with the photographs in archives, family photo albums, even in computer folders, and echoes Aby Warburg's "Bilder Atlas" (1866-1929) and the its "law of good neighbour".
